By God’s standard, all of us are messed up. No one is good enough to earn God’s favor. On the other hand, there is no one so messed up that they are Beyond God’s grace. Sometimes there are some issues that really separate people from each other, and some think, from God. In this sermon Eric explores some of the touchy subjects that sometimes stretch our understanding of God and of each other.

The latest Pirate’s installment, “At World’s End”, serves as a launching pad for Eric Kramer’s discussion about heaven and hell. Much of the time Christianity focuses “escape theology”. However, God has given us tastes of hell here on earth. And, Jesus talked about bringing the Kingdom of God to the here and now, that’s a taste of heaven. Many people doubt God and doubt an afterlife. Eric’s answers to skeptic’s questions show that since our soul’s are eternal, then hell is a consistent result of a God who allows, in His mystery, an element of free will fused with justice.

Wrapping up our Come, Don’t Stay series Art Morris asks us to consider the question “Is life with Jesus Good?”. Because if you really think that life with Jesus is good, then there is hope. And, if you’re view of God is of a good daddy who knows you and only wants good for you, then there is hope. At Beyond, we want to be a place where those without hope can come and find it.

Lonely? Not, me.

Many people nowadays are lonely. But, we were not made to be that way. Instead, we were made to be in fellowship with others. Including new insights from his own recent trip to Mt. Carmel in Israel, Eric Kramer shares the story of Israel’s greatest prophet, Elijah and the day when God “stuck in his finger” and defeated the prophets of Baal. But, in the rest of the story, Elijah fought despair right after his greatest success. Why? Because of loneliness. When we live life together with other Christ-followers (such as in a Life Group!) we not only shed loneliness, but we also truly experience the kingdom of heaven here on earth.
