By God’s standard, all of us are messed up. No one is good enough to earn God’s favor. On the other hand, there is no one so messed up that they are Beyond God’s grace. Sometimes there are some issues that really separate people from each other, and some think, from God. In this sermon Eric explores some of the touchy subjects that sometimes stretch our understanding of God and of each other.

Wrapping up our Come, Don’t Stay series Art Morris asks us to consider the question “Is life with Jesus Good?”. Because if you really think that life with Jesus is good, then there is hope. And, if you’re view of God is of a good daddy who knows you and only wants good for you, then there is hope. At Beyond, we want to be a place where those without hope can come and find it.

Many people nowadays are lonely. But, we were not made to be that way. Instead, we were made to be in fellowship with others. Including new insights from his own recent trip to Mt. Carmel in Israel, Eric Kramer shares the story of Israel’s greatest prophet, Elijah and the day when God “stuck in his finger” and defeated the prophets of Baal. But, in the rest of the story, Elijah fought despair right after his greatest success. Why? Because of loneliness. The disciples knew that Christ’s message was true because it’s power overshadowed the gods of the day. That same text is true for us today and it’s power is unchanged. A commitment to become a “person of the book” who embraces the text as the ultimate truth will be rewarded with the power of a changed life. Establishing a culture at Beyond where people “Come As You Are” involves honesty. Today’s teaching examines the nature of hypocrisy. Art Morris uses the example of Peter’s hypocrisy in Galatians 2 to encourage us to examine our lives and get honest with Jesus so that His truth can change our inside in order to match the outside.

Considering the Parable of the Sower, Art Morris’ teaching this week continues our “Come, Don’t Stay” series asking us to think about what is involved with having a fruitful life. We need to be the right kind of soil to handle adversity, to grow, to bear fruit. We also need to be the right kind of seed — willing to be empowered by God to become way more than we are now.

Eric Kramer starts off our new series inspired by John Burke’s book No Perfect People Allowed. He discusses the essential soil ingredients required for growth. Further, we are encouraged to understand that even though none of us is perfect, we all share in God’s image. Not only does God see some of himself in us, we need to also see some of God — something of extreme worth — in each other as well.
