In this final teaching on peacemaking, Art Morris focuses on forgiveness. Properly done, complete forgiveness involves reconciliation resulting from a heart ready to forgive and a heart ready to repent. Sometimes, there needs to be a process of forgiveness. For more on these consult Peacemaker Ministries at www.HisPeace.org Here is the teaching outline for the service:
Peacemaking 101 Go and Be Reconciled
Focus Passages Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Key Points 1. Following Christ means offering forgiveness that the world can’t understand. 2. Seizing the opportunity to forgive as you’ve been forgiven is an act of worship. 3. Forgiveness involves an act of faith. 4. Acting in faith allows God to do a work of grace on both parties.
Questions to Think About 1. The Bible says “to obey is better than sacrifice.” How does that apply to worshipping through forgiveness? 2. What have you been doing to create distance rather than closeness toward someone that “gets on your nerves”? Is there something you could do this week to reverse that? 3. What’s the difference between forgiving and forgetting?
